I am a native American and I bet anyone who reads this blog is one also. I was born in San Diego, California. This makes me a native San Diegan. It also makes me a native Californian. I know it often does not seem so, but the last time I checked California was in the United States of America. This makes me a native American. So why has the politically correct crowd allowed Tribal Americans to highjack my identity? (I am of British and German decent by the way, but I do not identify myself as a German-American). Even spell check in Microsoft Word is trying to capitalize the word native as I type this.
But wait, those Tribal Americans were here first. So what? Being here first makes you a primary American, or a first American, or even an initial American, but it does not make those of us born in America any less natives. Add to that the name America is a western import, so no one living here prior to 1492 ever called themselves any kind of American.
And let us acknowledge the American culture, my culture. I do not appreciate others trying to take my identity from me any more than any one else.
